I fell in love with Manda Baker eight years ago, and I loved her to the core of her soul. We were supposed to have that elusive happily ever after and spend a lifetime together. But that was all before she was STOLEN from me.
Her best friend, Sarah Erickson, killed her. It wasn’t intentional. It was far worse. Everyone claims it was just an accident, but I can see through the lies. Even if it’s with my dying breath, I will make her pay for what she did.
Fate hates me. It robbed me of my first love and left me to navigate through this world emotionless and numb. Then, one day, spiteful fate gave me a woman to fill my shattered soul and make me feel again. It gave me Emma Jane Erickson. Now I spend my days searching for the answers that will ruin Sarah and my nights falling in love with her sister—the one person who is bound and determined to save her.
But what happens when everything you know to be true explodes around you? Who will be left to pick up the pieces, and who will need to be saved from the wreckage?
Aly Martinez knocked this book out of the park. If you have read the first book in the Wrecked and Ruined series you are familiar with Caleb Jones. You don’t have to read the first book to fall in love with him, but I would recommend it because 1. it is a really great book and 2. You get a lot more history about they dynamics coming into play in this book.
Caleb Jones is a man holding on to anger and hate steaming from one event that stole the life he knew and planned. He is a man stuck, with no one able to offer him the answers he needs to move on. Then Emma Jane Erickson come into the picture she is the first person to pull him out of his hate spiral. However, if you know these characters history you will ask yourself how will it ever work out for them? This book is about love overcoming hate, about letting go and learning to forgive.
Caleb and Emma’s chemistry is amazing throughout the entire book. You can’t help rooting for them. They bring out the best in each other. Love how Caleb is sometimes a jerk but Emma sets him straight. As a couple they compliment each other really well. There is a lightness that Emma brings out of Caleb that makes him even more endearing, if that is even possible. By the end you will want to have a best friend like Emma and your own Caleb Jones.
If you read the first book, you will recognize a lot of the secondary characters. It was great to catch up with them and delve into their stories and history a bit more. Aly does a nice job of intertwining the first two books in the series, and although it is not necessary to read the first book to get ” Stolen Course” it does make the reading experience more enjoyable.
I highly recommend this book. It captures my heart from the first page and held me captive until the last period. I can’t wait to get more from Aly Martinez. I feel like she is going to end up becoming a power house writer.
